Mini DV

A small video cassette, offering up to 80 minutes of high quality digital video recording.

DVD

A small 8cm DVD that will play back in most DVD players. A standared disc offers up to 30 minutes of high quality digital video recording.

Benefits of DVD:

  • Discs can be played back in most DVD players, removing the need for cables and connections.
  • Instant scene access. No rewinding or fast-forwarding required.
  • Fast download to a PC using either a DVD drive or USB 2 connection.
  • Basic editing and deletion of scenes can be performed on the camera.

Hard Drive / Hard Disk (HD)

Video is recorded directly to a small in-built hard drive similar to that of a PC. Recording time is dependent on the size of the hard drive.

Benefits of hard drive:

  • As much as 14 hours of high quality video can be recorded to an in-built 30 gigabyte hard drive.
  • Instant scene access. No rewinding or fast-forwarding required.
  • Basic editing and deletion of scenes can be performed on the camera.
  • A high-speed USB 2 connection allows video to be easily downloaded to a PC or Macintosh, for editing or burning to DVD.
  • Video is recorded in MPEG2 format, meaning video clips can be copied to DVD without the need for file conversion or further compression.

High Definition Video (HDV)

High Definition Video (HDV) is the next generation of Digital Video (DV) used in today’s camcorders and is generally referred to any video system with a higher resolution than Secure Digital (SD). Recording at up to 1080 lines of resolution, a high definition television or computer monitor is required for viewing high definition signals. With the advent of Blu-ray and HD-DVD (high definition hardware and media), your event can be captured and then archived so you can store and then view your memories at the highest resolution currently available.
